What are specialty tapes used for?

Specialty tapes are pressure-sensitive tapes engineered for gasketing, bonding, mounting, laminating, or conductive attachment. They're used across aerospace, automotive, construction, and medical industries to replace mechanical fasteners, seal surfaces, or provide EMI/thermal conductivity in OEM assemblies.

What's the difference between gasketing tape and bonding tape?

Gasketing tape is cellular foam with adhesive used for sealing, insulating, and cushioning between surfaces. Bonding tape is a stronger double-sided foam or adhesive-impregnated tape, like 3M™ VHB™, designed to replace mechanical fasteners for structural mounting applications.

Can specialty tapes be custom converted for my application?

Yes. Specialty tapes can be roll-slit, rewound, spool-wound, die-cut (flatbed or rotary), or “baloney” sliced into custom shapes and sizes. Custom converting allows OEMs to receive tape in ready-to-use, application-specific formats rather than standard rolls.

Are conductive tapes different from standard adhesive tapes?

Yes. Conductive tapes are engineered with electrically and/or thermally conductive properties, unlike standard adhesive tapes. They're used for EMI/RFI shielding and heat sink attachment in electronics assemblies, where managing electrical interference or heat transfer is critical.
