OEM Insulation | FAQs
Insul-Fab serves the needs of a wide variety of original equipment manufacturers and contract manufacturers worldwide.
What is OEM insulation? Why is it important?
OEM insulation refers to custom-fabricated insulation components integrated directly into original equipment. These parts play a key role in thermal management, sound control, electrical safety, and overall system performance.
Which industries use fabricated insulation products?
Industries include HVAC equipment, transportation, power generation, medical devices, aerospace, and industrial equipment. Fabricated insulation products are necessary when performance, protection, or regulatory compliance is needed in thermal or mechanical systems.
What materials are available for fabrication?
Insul-Fab uses a wide range of thermal, acoustical, and electrical insulation materials, including fiberglass blankets, foams (open cell and closed cell), dielectric FR rated plastics, thermal interface insulating films, pressure-sensitive adhesives, foam rubber, and specialty fabrics. We are a preferred or authorized converter for many exceptional material suppliers, such as Johns Manville, ITW Formex, Armacell, 3M, K-Flex, Lydall, and Fujipoly.
What are the main types of insulation solutions that Insul-Fab offers?
Our OEM insulation products include thermal insulation, acoustic products for noise and vibration control, electrical insulation, and fabricated foam or rubber components for sealing, gasketing, and padding. Mechanical Engineers typically ask us for products with high thermal resistance, high noise reduction coefficients (NRC), or high dielectric insulating properties, combined with UL flame and smoke ratings.
Can products be customized for specific designs or applications?
Yes, custom fabrication is central to the OEM support we offer. Parts are built to customer specifications, whether it’s a simple gasket or a multi-layered electrical insulation. Support is available throughout material selection, DFM, tolerance review, prototyping, production, and future cost optimization.
What fabrication methods are used to produce custom parts?
Capabilities include die cutting, roll slitting, CNC router cutting, water jet and laser cutting, lamination, and thermoforming.
Are prototyping and sample runs available?
Absolutely. Many projects that our customers bring us benefit from non-tooled prototypes and samples to verify fit and performance. Whenever possible, we aim to help our customers save cost by validating a design through samples and prototypes before any tooling is purchased.
What types of acoustic and noise control products are available?
Products include open cell foam and nonwoven fiber absorbers, heavy loaded noise barriers, adhesive backed damping materials, vibration isolators, and specialty acoustic blankets and covers. These OEM acoustic noise insulation solutions manage sound in industrial machinery, vehicles, HVAC systems, and enclosures.
What is included in electromechanical insulation solutions?
These include UL-rated electrical insulation films and thermal interface insulators in conjunction with a broad array of other electromechanical solutions, EMI/RFI shielding products, and airflow control baffles for electronics, servers, power devices, and electrical panels.
How are fabricated foam and rubber products used in OEM applications?
Foam and rubber are used for insulating, gasketing, sealing, vibration damping, thermal breaks, and padding. Materials can be converted with adhesives and fabricated into rolls, pads, or complex shapes.
Does Insul-Fab carry specialty pressure-sensitive tapes?
Yes, a variety of tape products are offered for bonding, sealing, laminating, insulating, and conducting applications. Tapes can be supplied in rolls or converted into die-cut parts.
