PPE Mask Air Seal Solution Deployed Quickly

Success Story: Respirator Face Seal

SUCCESS STORIES share actual product applications using the strength of Insul-Fab's capabilities and supplier relationships to solve customer challenges.

The Challenge

A customer was in a hurry to take to market a new, easy-to-use product. When they approached Insul-Fab with their needs, they shared the need for a foam piece that would create an outside air barrier for a PE respirator mask, that would be cost effective while also providing a comfortable fit to the face. The customer needed the product to be readily available in a smaller start up quantity, have an adhesive strip that was one-sided and would adhere to PE.

The Solution

The Insul-Fab E-team quickly determined that our in-stock product, EMC6B, an EPDM crushed sponge foam with CC593 double coated adhesive with a liner on one side of the foam would be the ideal solution for the challenge our customer was facing. This semi-closed cell structured foam provides a seal to keep contaminants out when breathing while also providing a comfortable and flexible fit, which allows it to conform to uneven surfaces like the face. The foam has ST593 double coated adhesive with a liner on one side and provides 3 parts per sheet after it has been water jet cut. Samples were quickly made from the customers drawing then approved for production and manufactured in 2 weeks.

Keys to Success:

  • In stock EMC6B and CC593 DC adhesive
  • Ability to engineer and water jet cut samples quickly
  • Ability to meet with customer in person while having safe social distancing
